5 QUESTIONS WITH CATH JANE

5 questions with guest interviews

Hey! Thank you so much for having me on your blog today. This is super exciting! My name is Catherine and I have been hosting ‘Cath Jane Blog’ (previously named Kitty Jade) for almost 4 years. I chat about all manner of things in my Chats With Cath series, but my blog mainly focuses on books, sustainability and self-improvement. I’m a teenager and absolutely love learning so I’m still in high school. I hope to further this into university too (if I can afford it haha). In my spare time I’m a Doctor Who nerd, book lover and tea addict.

1. What hobby of yours turned into something lucrative?

Recently I launched my little scrunchie business! It’s not exactly lucrative at the moment, but it’s generating a small amount of income which I am putting towards my trip to Kenya with Girlguiding in 2022. I’ll link my post about where the profits go there, because I think it’s really important for customers to know what their money is going towards! Crafting has been a long-term love of mine so it’s great to put those skills to good use.

2. When do you feel the most confident as a teenager?

Outside approval shouldn’t really be needed in order to feel confident, but when people compliment me it gives me a superb boost.

I am the most confident in my blog as a skill. It’s where I truly thrive and, without meaning to sound egotistical, what I am best at. School and studies are my main priority of course - but blogging is where I come out of my shell and truly embrace myself.

Also, when surrounded by the right group of people, it isn’t hard to find a boost of confidence when you need it. Don’t let bad experiences with people hinder your beliefs. Most people are pretty nice!

3. What scares you most about the future?

Uncertainty doesn’t scare me much at all. In fact - I think unpredictability is one of the best things about life! Rather, what scares me about the future is wasting my future. I want to make the most out of the opportunities I am offered, create a reality that I enjoy, explore the world… I’m sometimes scared that I might stay in my home town forever with no adventures, just keeping to a mundane and repetitive job that I don’t enjoy. Although, by knowing what I don’t want in life it helps me to make decisions that would favour my dream future.

4. What is something you’ve done that you’re most proud of?

A blogging related thing that I will always be proud of, is when I reached out to the brand Mapiful. I was so scared to ask for a brand partnership but hey - I got it! This made me more confident in my ability as a micro-influencer, and reassured me that reaching out to the brand before they reach out to you is okay! I was quite proud that I secured this ad all by myself. My blog is all of my own making and I am making these crazy experiences happen which I have to give myself credit for every now and again.

5. How do you respond to peer pressure?

Peer pressure has negative connotations, but there are some forms of peer pressure that you need in life. My friends telling me to sign up to a trip to France was one of the best decisions I have ever made - and I may not have taken the chance if they hadn’t ‘pressured’ me into it!

But, largely, peer pressure is a bad thing. I would say don’t react to it - but that’s easier said than done. Some people don’t take no for an answer. So here are some things you could say instead:

“I’m not ready”

“At the moment it isn’t right for me”

“I shouldn’t have to explain why I don’t want to do this”

“If you were an honest friend/partner you would be patient and understanding”

“I’m not the only one who feels this way”

I associate with some of the loveliest people ever, so I rarely find myself in a situation of peer pressure. If it did arise, and I’m sure it will crop up through my late teens and all throughout my life, I would say one or all of the things above. If they still don’t take the hint; walk away. You shouldn’t have to explain why you don’t want to do something. No is no.
