5 QUESTIONS WITH ADANNA PHILLIP

Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines

5 questions with guest interview

Hi. My name is Adanna Phillip and I am a relatively new blogger; an aspiring artist and graphic designer. I love learning new things, reading and improving myself on a personal and professional level. My blog, loveinspirelearn@wordpress.com is my way of sharing my experiences and helping other like-minded persons achieve their goals. As such, you will find a growing collection of information on personal development, productivity, and my life in general featured on my blog.

I live in the beautiful twin island of Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies which is a small island in the Caribbean Archipelago. It lies close to the continent of South America, northeast of Venezuela and northwest of Guyana. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Monique on this project and meet new people as a result.

1. What's your message to girls who aren't comfortable in their own  skin?

My message to girls who are not comfortable in their own skin, is to take your time and be compassionate with yourself. It takes patience and work to learn to love yourself, especially if you have experienced a lot of negativity from others. Surround yourself with people that boost you up and make you feel good. Dip your toes in the waters of the unknown and try something that you always wanted to do. It will help you build confidence. Write love notes to yourself or stand in front of the mirror and find something to admire about yourself. Rewrite the story that you tell yourself and speak words of admiration and love out loud, even if you do not believe it yet. Remember it is okay to mess up and to not like where we are at sometimes. The important thing is to keep trying and to seek help from others if you need it.

2. Where do you think your confidence comes from? Would you still be confident without other people's praises?

Where does my confidence come from? Taking a moment to consider this question, I will say that my boyfriend has had a major role in making me feel more confident about my body and expressing myself. I have always been very shy and I am the type to keep things bottled in. His encouragement and acceptance of me have allowed me to fundamentally grow. He helped start the process, but it was still up to me to continue to pursue that confidence. It is a work in progress, as are all things growth-wise and that is okay. I don't think we, as people, feel confident every moment of our lives; we just put one foot in front of the other and as the expression goes 'fake it til we make it.' Yes, I think I would be confident without the praises of others, but their encouragement and support help the process along a lot. I think that it is acceptable as long as you are not basing your self-worth on other people's validation.

3. Aside from your niche, is there anything else you want to be known for? Why?

Aside from being known for my blog and my love of learning and personal development, I would love to be recognised as an artist/graphic designer, a motivator and confidant. I have always loved the idea of being a counsellor and helping others overcome challenges and grow into themselves. Even if I do not become one, I try to incorporate that spirit in my content and actions. The reasons I want to be recognised as at least one of those things is because I enjoy helping others cancel all the noise of the negativity around them and live their fullest life. I want to help you be the best version of yourself. We humans are so wonderful, unique and precious beings, but life can be a challenging and harsh yet wonderful opportunity. I want to help you find the beauty and wonder in yourself and each other. Hopefully, help to make the world a little better.

4. Would you rather have a pretty face but dumb or an ugly face but smart? Why?

I would rather have an ugly face but be smart than a pretty face but be dumb. Don't get me wrong, I care about appearance and how others view me to some extent, but only because people base a lot on physical appearances, and that is usually what they consider for first impressions. However, what matters most is what's on the inside and beauty starts from within. Very cliche, I know, but it's true. Being smart is more important to me because it enables me to reach persons, not that 'dumb' people can't. However, being smart reassures people that I know and understand what I am talking about; this in turn enables me to reach and help more people. They will be more confident in my abilities and be able to trust my skills, because of said ‘smartness’. Does that make sense?

5. What are the three main things you're planning to invest in next year? Why?

The three main things I plan to invest in next year are my skills, savings and my health. This was a tough choice because there are a lot of things I want to invest in next year but this is the broadest I could make these categories. The reason I chose these is that they make up the cornerstone of a fulfilling, prosperous life for me.

You already know I love learning new skills, which in turn helps me grow on a professional and personal level, impacting all areas of my life for the better. Some skills I want to focus on next year are SEO and digital marketing as well as graphic design, writing, proofreading, communication and relationship building.

This year has shown me how crucial it is to invest in the future and have funds for a rainy day. I have always been a saver but next year I am going to be more diligent about it. I will definitely be working on my retirement fund, emergency fund, long term and short term savings as well to cover all my bases.

Our mind and body are our most valuable assets because that is how we interact with the world. Taking care of our health: physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual should be part of our daily lives. In 2021 I hope to maintain proper sleep hygiene, move my body daily, connect with my thoughts and values and establish a relationship with the universe.

I can go on and on about these things and topics which were deep and insightful. Monique, thank you for collaborating with me. I can already imagine some future blog posts on the horizon.

Thank you.

Love generously, Inspire daily, Learn constantly.

PS: Encase you were wondering, the reason I sign as AmethystAP is because I love the colour purple and I was born in February so my birthstone is Amethyst. AP are my initials.
