Whether writing a novel is a part of your bucket lists, new year's resolutions, childhood dreams, or in your prayers, it's obvious that hoping to see your name on one of the biggest bookshelves one day has crossed your mind. For some, that thought merely passes and doesn't really stay there long enough for them to call it a passion. And for some, writing a novel has been one of the many things they wanted to do since they were children.

Regardless, there will always be that itch to sit down on your desk, write something, and actually finish it. What matters is you have the will power to do it and the grit to complete it down to the last word.

If you're looking for a sign, this it it. Otherwise, you wouldn't have clicked this article so fast.

why you should start writing a novel | 5 reasons to get your story out today

HERE ARE 5 REASONS TO GET YOUR STORY OUT TO THE WORLD TODAY:

TO FULFILL A DREAM

You should write a novel because you owe it to your dreams. You owe it to your younger self who still continues to imagine himself when signing books. As we all know, time is running out for all of us. It's only a matter of time before we wait in our death bed with regrets of the past. As of the moment, you are creating history. You don't want to look back and realize that you haven't done anything in your life worth remembering. You don't want to sit on your front porch admiring children for their youth. Don't be like most people who only dream but don't have the guts to turn it into action.

You have the ability and all the means to do this. You don't even need a phone or a laptop to do this. You just need a pen and paper, and you can buy that almost anywhere for a small amount. Write one chapter at a time, and soon enough you'll realize you've reached far. Write a novel because you're curious about what it would feel when you finish it. Write a novel because it's not everybody, and you don't want to be just an everybody. You want to be somebody with a will to wake up every day and look forward to writing a story that matters. Write a novel because it is what you're destined to do.

And when you do, promise me you'll finish it.

TO IMPROVE ON YOUR CRAFT

If you're into writing or storytelling, writing a novel is a great and noble way to hone your skills in literature. You will tackle syntax, conflict, and story structure, and many more. You will enter a higher level of difficulty in the field of literature and realize that your knowledge was nothing compared to what awaits you. This means you're one step closer to learning more and not settling for less. This means humbling yourself to learning the basics of writing over and over and turning it into something greater.

Write a novel because you're not contented with being good. You're supposed to grow the hard way, as writing is solitude and mind-numbing process. You have to look beyond the reasons why you shouldn't and start dwelling on the reasons why you should. The more you focus on the good, the more you see it clearer --- the beauty in the painstaking process that is writing. Write a novel and end every single chapter with a bang because it's one of the best ways to practice and hone your skills to the fullest. Write a novel because you need to leave a legacy of your name in honor of your love for writing.

TO CONTRIBUTE TO PERSONAL GROWTH

As they say, writing a novel can mean so much to a true writer, to a person whose calling is to make stories. But how would you know if it's indeed for you if you don't open your heart to it? Try and count the number of reasons why you should write and disregard the reasons that discourage you. It can be your form of escape, a therapy to unwind on a bad day. It can be an avenue for you to pour in all your brilliant ideas and creative juice in a book. The most lucrative way to see this is all your hard-earned ideas and research goes into something that can potentially turn into a stable career. Moreover, write a novel because this is what you have to do to grow mentally. This is the next step you need to take to become the person you aspire to be.

Considering you can do what most of the people cannot do is your advantage among them. It is with great pride that you tell them that you have overcome all the struggles, both internal and external, to start and finish a story with all your might. This is more than a bragging right or an addition to your resume. This is about you defying all fears and proving them all wrong. This is about ascending yourself to greater heights, greater than the dreams you once thought were impossible to reach.

TO CREATE A STORY

You should write a novel so you can create a story of your own. You can finally put your wild imagination to paper and make it something real. You can make up your own characters, build their personalities, create their storylines, and add stakes to make the relationship between these characters interesting and value-laden. To create a story means more than imagining; it takes belief to produce something that was once intangible into something that the rest of the world and yourself can actually learn from. By writing a story, you're creating a readable structure, a source for people to revolve their lives in.

Your story could light up a whole year. Your story could touch the hearts of many people. Your story could inspire the young to get into reading and writing and could give birth to an entirely new generation of fresh traditional readers. The world deserves to know your talents. Plus, although writing a novel (and if you do submit it to a publisher) won't make you rich, at least you have the potential and advantage to go that road. By finishing that novel, you're opening a myriad of possibilities for your career. You're sharpening your wit and gift in this challenging time. It's time to let go of the fears.

TO INSPIRE OTHERS

This reason is more learned towards how the very act of writing a novel has the power to inspire millions of people. Just by doing something that most people aren't willing to do, you have the ability to change their lives directly and indirectly. How? Writing a novel is not an easy thing to do on so many levels --- from technicality to plot development to character depth. There are so many things to consider and the abovementioned do not even cover a quarter of it. Just conditioning the mind to commit to writing a single chapter takes discipline and will. You can inspire people to get out of their comfort zones because they see you doing it by example as well, even if they don't read your book. You can inspire those who are interested in writing to improve their craft. You can inspire those who are burdened with self-doubt to gain confidence by listening to your real-life experiences and struggles about writing a novel. These are only a few of the many ways how you can inspire them indirectly.

Also, to your avid readers, you can inspire them by the talent and originality you pour into your work. You can inspire them by the way you let the words flow and on the impact of your dialogues to their soul. You can inspire them by making them smile or making them vulnerable to deep emotions found in your writing. You can inspire them by motivating them to write their own book and get them out of bed. By fulfilling your dream, you can change the world by making a difference.
